2006 Brunello di Montalcino

2006 Brunello Pre-Sell
A Great Vintage and a
Must For Any Collection of the Best

The 2006 vintage for Brunello is a superlative vintage. It's a classic.

Parker has already rated other noble parts of Tuscany in a major way. 2006 Chianti Classico got 96 points and the Super Tuscans from the Coast, the area known as the Maremma which includes Bolgheri, in 2006 got 97 points.

These two scores equal or are the highest he has ever given a vintage.

Wine Spectator has given the vintage a whopping 96 points calling the wines “Complex and powerful wines that impress with ripe yet fresh fruit and firm yet silky tannins.”

Winemakers throughout Tuscany are lauding the quality of the 2006 vintage.

Enologist Carlo Ferrini who makes the Romitorio Brunello we are showcasing below commented and I quote, “This is one of the finest vintages I can remember”. Leonardo Raspini of Ornellaia commented that the wines at this point are more complex than in 2004. Ferrini also commented that we have the concentration of fruit and overall quality of two classic vintages 1997 and 2001.

Brunello are some of the most sought after red wines in the world.

If you love the the world's best age-able big reds, Super Tuscans; Bordeaux, Napa Cabs and the finest Brunello. This is a definite buy vintage. No cellar will be complete with out some of the finest 2006 Brunello.

I have selected three of my favorite producers.

Each gets massive scores. What's more, I have a personal relationship with each one going back to 1993. I can tell you that their wines age brilliantly well.

These are three of the best, they are serious about what they do, have proven their collectibilty and their unrelenting long term pursuit of Perfection.

But pretty fruit tones of cherry and blueberry bring up the rear.

Plum and ripe berry aromas and flavors, with hints of flowers and spices. Medium to full body, with fine tannins. And very good fruit. -91 Points - James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

The Mocali estate, acquired by the Ciacci family (distant relations to Ciacci Piccolomini) in the 1950s, is a setting of natural Tuscan beauty where vineyards and olive groves alternate with oak and pine forests. This harmony of man and nature comes through in the delicious, ripe and balanced wines produced here, available at prices that are incredibly low when compared to those of the more established producers of Montalcino. The wines are particularly approachable when young, well-structured with ample body and an elegant, minerally character distinct to this growing area. Situated to the southwest of Montalcino at an altitude of 300-350 meters above sea-level on the slopes facing Castiglione del Bosco, the Mocali estate is comprised of 32 hectares, 6 of which are specialized vineyards (5 Hectares of Sangiovese grosso), and 4 dedicated to olive groves. As over half of the estate is covered by a vegetation characteristic to the hill on which Montalcino stands, the vineyards and olive groves alternate with a landscape of woodland of ilex, oak and arbutus. The soil is rendered highly mineral; salt owing to the presence of marl and limestone. Not being overly large, the Mocali estate lies under family management with the consultation of an expert oenologist.

The wines have been getting excellent press of late. The 2004 Brunello Riserva got 96 pts By Spectator

Intense ruby red in color, this Brunello has a complex and balanced nose, showing aromas of raspberries and liquorice with notes of chocolate and spice, varying from vanilla to cinnamon to coffee. Warm and full on the palate, the flavors are beautifully pronounced with excellent length.

For further information on this. Please contact Senior Wine Advisor Jim Winston. I sat down Saturday with our staff and we polished of the whole bottle. The wine is a wonderful blend of power and finesse. Its actually right in the middle of two of our favorite wine. It has the opulence and richness of Romitorio matched with the length, complexity and layering of Canalicchio This wine is easy to enjoy. The 2006 vinatge for Brunello is a classic, a new benchmark for the region and is being hailed as the modern day 1997, the finest Tuscan vintage from the last century. This is one of the key vintage releases of the year and no cellar would be complete without the great 2006 Brunello. Donna Olga is one of our favorites. It is a wine we have sold back to 1997 and we have a track record on and it is a Buy!! I had a bottle of 1999 at the end of last year and it was just coming into its own and with a breathe, superb! Parker: The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a very pretty, flashy Brunello. In this vintage I find more elegance, freshness and balance than has often been the case. Freshly cut flowers, smoke, menthol, cherries, plums, underbrush and tobacco are some of the notes that come to life on the vivid, textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. 92 Pts WE 92 pts Parker; 92 pts Wine Enthuziast

Tasting Notes: If you have ever had a hug from Olga Peloso, the winemaker of this glorious Brunello, you will never forget it. Red Wine Hand-Picked 95 Pts Wine Spectator Tasting Notes: Theres Brunello and then theres Valdicava Brunello! The Valdicava Brunello is the benchmark wine from the region. Valdicava is considered the finest of all Brunello. Owner/Winemaker Vincenzo Abruzzese who is kind enough to come in and taste with our customers every couple of years is a genious. Theres Brunello and then theres Valdicava Brunello. I am always amazed at various tastings of Brunello over the years. The new vintage will come in and we taste through various wines, some are better than others and one or two I will consider to be spectacular and then you taste the Valdicava Brunello. The wine is always head and shoulders above all others. Valdicava is one of Parkers top 3 favorite producers. 2001 Valdicava got 100 pts by Spectator. This is perfection territory.

95pts Wine Spectator: Though rich and round, the cherry, black currant and violet flavors in this Brunello are pure and focused. This is beautifully textured, displaying bright acidity and refined tannins that drive the long mineral aftertaste. Best from 2012 through 2025.
