Tasting Notes: The Rioja Mayor Reserva 2004 is Tempranillo, blended with Mazuelo, grapes selected from low yielding vines in Viana picked when overripe. The characteristics of the 2004 harvest were particularly good, producing a ripe, concentrated berry. Twenty-one months in oak from Missouri and central France, naturally fined with a series of successive rackings the wine is a deep cherry red color with inky hues. Its bouquet is fruity with spices and a smoky aroma on the nose. In the mouth it has backbone and lots of concentration, which bodes well for a long life.
