The D.O.C (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) denomination “ORVIETO” was recognized in 1971, and has seen incredible growth both quantitatively and qualitatively over the last 40 years. Today, Orvieto wine is one of the most well-known Italian white wines in the world and represents, by itself, about three quarters of the D.O.C. wine production of Umbria. The D.O.C. region is subdivided into Orvieto Classico, which represents the land around the limestone cliff on which the city of Orvieto is situated and its surrounding area; and Orvieto, which completes the region to the north and to the south. The geological components of the territory – which are of volcanic origins – are linked with the favorable and particular microclimate which distinguish the Valley of the Paglia and the lower Tevere, are at the root of the oenological fortune which have, for longer than we can remember, been inseparably linked with the city. It is not by chance, in fact, that Orvieto is one of the few cities in the world whose name coincides exactly with that of the wine which is made there.
To the eye the wine introduces itself with a straw-yellow color with tinges of lime green. It has full and fruity aromas which are reminiscent of pineapple and bananas, and exudes floral notes. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, luscious, and soft.
