Founded in 1962 by Maggie and Harry Wetztel, the Alexander Valley Vineyards didn't take long to establish themselves as one of Sonoma's finest wineries. When they first broke ground over four decades ago, there weren't many vineyards to speak of in Sonoma -- just ranches and small family homes. The Wetzels took note of their Napa Valley neighbors and started a small winery named after the Alexander Valley in which they dwelled. By 1975, they became known for distinctive estate wines, and their beloved
merlot ranks as one of the best. They grow a total of 14 grape types, and as the Alexander Valley has grown in
status and reputation, so too have their famous vineyards. The Alexander Valley Vineyards merlot is revered for many reasons. The incredibly well-balanced nose, with fruity spice and complex notes, is wow worthy. The taste is extraordinarily rich, with boldness that never overpowers, but just evokes images of the pristine vineyards from which it is grown. You'll be hard pressed to find a more delightful merlot -- Alexander Valley
Vineyards has mastered the art of winemaking.
