My Favorite Brut Under Twenty
Elegance and Sophistication At a Realistic Price
I would blind taste this against French Champagne at double to triple the price and you would never know the difference. This is serious quality at an everyday price. This is made in the same traditional method as Champagne. The wine is aged for 30 months in a constant 16 degrees centigrade and manually clarified in wooden racks. It was also disgorged manually, the date of which is printed on the back label, and it is drinking superbly now and over the next two years. This sparkler, the Albet I Noya Brut Reserva hails from Spain where it is called Cava. The best area for Cava is Penedes and the grapes used are Chardonnay, Macabeu, Parellada and Xarello. This is a superb example garnering 90 pts by Parker. This Cava is produced from a total of 15 hectares of the Can Vendrell, Fondos and La Guixera vineyards. Nearly 95% of all Cava production occurs in this area. Soil of calcareous origin, low in organic content and clayey and sandy in consistency, provides excellent moisture retention. These bush vines were planted using the vertical trellising training method at a density of 3000 vines/hectare at an elevation of 350 meters above-sea-level on southwestern facing slopes. Albet i Noya practices organic and biodynamic viticulture. This Cava is absolutely delicious and cannot be beat at the price, wonderful texture, creamy, mature, full of fruit, fresh and with a low acidity making it very pleasant on the palate.
Tasting Notes: A high quality Spanish Cava made from Chardonnay, Macabeu, Parellada, and Xarel.lo, this frothy, light to medium-bodied effort reveals fresh brioche, orange skin, and lemon zest characteristics, surprising texture, and a dry finish. Drink it over the next 18-20 months A delicious Spanish sparkling wine, the Cava Brut Reserva offers a creamy texture, excellent ripeness, persistent effervescence, low acidity, and an up-front, fruity style. It undoubtedly contains a dose of residual sugar, but if so, it is well-hidden by the wine's decent acidity. This cleanly made, fresh, lively sparkler should be enjoyed over the next year. 18-20 months. Pale gold. Spicy pear and peach skin aromas are complicated by white pepper and beeswax. Fleshy, smooth and refreshingly bitter, offering lively orchard fruit flavors and good back-end lift. This vivacious wine closes on a nervy, spicy note, with good length.
