It displays a fragrant perfume of lavender, wood smoke, spice box, black cherry, and blackberry leading to a smooth-textured, succulent, easygoing Malbec with a bit of hidden structure and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Although it is likely to evolve for 1-2 years, it can be approached now and over the next 10 years

Red Wine Hand-Picked 92 Pts ST Pesquera is one of the legendary producers from Ribera del Duero which is one of the greatest regions for full bodied dry red wine. Pequera is owned by and made by the legendary figure Alejandro Fernandez. Wines produced by Alejandro Fernández are made exclusively from the difficult, quick-maturing Tempranillo variety, of which he is the acknowledged master. His world-famous Tinto Pesquera is aged a minimum of 18 months in oak.

Tasting Notes: This is classically styles old world Ribera at its finest. Bright ruby. Exotically perfumed aroma of red berries, cherry, spicecake and sandalwood becomes richer with air, picking up plum compote and bitter chocolate qualities that carry onto the palate. A rich, fleshy style that betrays no rough edges, as the fruit sucks up the tannins. This has the depth to age but there's plenty of complexity already. Serve it with a peppery, grilled piece of lamb.

But pretty fruit tones of cherry and blueberry bring up the rear.

Plum and ripe berry aromas and flavors, with hints of flowers and spices. Medium to full body, with fine tannins. And very good fruit. -91 Points - James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com

The Mocali estate, acquired by the Ciacci family (distant relations to Ciacci Piccolomini) in the 1950s, is a setting of natural Tuscan beauty where vineyards and olive groves alternate with oak and pine forests. This harmony of man and nature comes through in the delicious, ripe and balanced wines produced here, available at prices that are incredibly low when compared to those of the more established producers of Montalcino. The wines are particularly approachable when young, well-structured with ample body and an elegant, minerally character distinct to this growing area. Situated to the southwest of Montalcino at an altitude of 300-350 meters above sea-level on the slopes facing Castiglione del Bosco, the Mocali estate is comprised of 32 hectares, 6 of which are specialized vineyards (5 Hectares of Sangiovese grosso), and 4 dedicated to olive groves. As over half of the estate is covered by a vegetation characteristic to the hill on which Montalcino stands, the vineyards and olive groves alternate with a landscape of woodland of ilex, oak and arbutus. The soil is rendered highly mineral; salt owing to the presence of marl and limestone. Not being overly large, the Mocali estate lies under family management with the consultation of an expert oenologist.

The wines have been getting excellent press of late. The 2004 Brunello Riserva got 96 pts By Spectator

Intense ruby red in color, this Brunello has a complex and balanced nose, showing aromas of raspberries and liquorice with notes of chocolate and spice, varying from vanilla to cinnamon to coffee. Warm and full on the palate, the flavors are beautifully pronounced with excellent length.

Red Wine Hand-Picked 92 Pts RP r It’s been ten years now since Wine Advocate founder Robert Parker called Toro the one wine region in all the world to watch during the following decade. Since then Parker has been proved a prophet as the makers of legendary Spanish wine Vega Sicilia and million-dollar-a-project consulting oenologist Michel Rolland, among many others have planted their flag in Toro, Spain’s D.O. 50 miles east of Portugal border producing wine that is every bit the peer of heavyweight neighbor Rioja. Vega Sicilia’s Alvarez family makes Spain’s most famous wine and has had their Toro Pintia winery racking up 90+ scores for a decade now. Bordeaux‘s globe-hopping Rolland who consults on Napa’s Harlan and Araujo, Tuscany’s Ornellaia and Pomerol’s L’Evangile has multiple Toro projects going. Toro’s Bodegas Matarredonda has its own stringof 90+ Parker scores. Their 12 acres of 120 year old Tinta de Toro vines, the local clone of Tempranillo, are ungrafted, pre-phylloxera and lower yielding than those of neighboring Rioja or Ribera del Duero, resulting in greater expression and fruit concentration. 2003 Bodegas Matarredonda Libranza is a 100% Tempranillo with notes of vanilla, earth, spice box and blackberry that emerge with time in the glass that is another feather in the cap of winemaker Rosa Zarza. 92 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. This beauty’s huge palate sings with textured, layered dark berry and cherry, licorice and mocha and lush, integrated tannins that give it power now but will reward short term laydown. Another reward? Reduce regular retail of $49.99 by 30% to our price of $34.99. Big, rich world-class reds at a 30% saving your thing? You will love this Libranza.

Tasting Notes: Bodegas Matarredonda’s first vintage was 2001, is off to a quick start. 100% Tinta de Toro, the local clone of Tempranillo. The 2003 Libranza comes from a 12-acre vineyard of pre-phylloxera Tinta de Toro vines ranging in age from 100-140 years. The wine received 14 months in French and American oak. Purple-colored, marked by oak, this wine is a bit ungiving aromatically but with coaxing, notes of vanilla, earth, spice box, and blackberry emerge. On the palate this large-scaled wine has a supple texture, layers of fruit, and plenty of ripe tannin. Everything is in balance and this wine should continue to evolve for at least 4-6 more years and drink well through 2025. Organically grown. Only 500 cases released in U.S.

This large-scaled, exuberant wine exhibits remarkable depth and plenty of textural richness. Hints of mocha and espresso frame the huge finish. This is the finest wine I have tasted from Sant’Elena. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

It displays a less ostentatious nose but has even better delineation with scents of red cherries, wild strawberry and gravel, the palate full-bodied and ripe with layers of thick black fruits on the finish. If you can help it, will Improve big time with cellaring. There's an ongoing sense of depth and power in the wines bouquet, great black fruits and the oak is superbly integrated. The palate is big and dense, substantial but never clumsy. The back palate is superb as the wine peaks in your mouth and then falls away to a very long, layered finish. Tannins are very refined and approachable yet abundant which bodes well for the cellar. This wine is all about quality, power and balance. Superb!
